Essential in the past for night time sea navigation, Arranmore Lighthouse is both a legacy of history and a tourist attraction of today.
It was built in 1798 before its neighbour on Tory Island.
With the advent of a permanent electricity supply source in 1970, its generators became somewhat redundant.
Further advances in remote control meant that in-house residents weren't needed either, and it has been "un-manned" since 1976.
